Reported Dog Death from Outbreak
Category: Dogs, Wildlife | Date: Apr 08 2007 | By: admin
I have received the donation report from Wildlifedirectfor USD1,025. I am greatful for everyone who kindly donated to our project!
I am still trying to collect the operational cost for the canine distemper ring vaccination and I will start the vaccination as soon as I manage to collected the amount I have listed on my previous entry.
Today I talked to DVO (District Veterinary Officer) from Trans Mara district and he gave me the exact number of dogs which died from canine distemper outbreak since the end of December 2006 to end of March 2007. The number was astonishing. The reported dog death is 750 and DVO is estimating that the actual number (including non-reported death) is somewhere near 1,000 over 3 months period.

Thank you Asuka for the update. These dog deaths are so, so sad! I had NO idea that there were SO many domestic dogs in the Trans Mara area. We must get the healthly dogs vaccinated, not only for them but for all the cats in the area. I sent in a small donation today and will send another after I receive my next paycheck.
I really appreciate your blog!

Dana-
Thank you very much for your donation and sorry for my late reply. I did not have any internet connection for couple of weeks, but just updated what is happening with the vaccination.
