Cracked Chasis

Category: Life of a Vet | Date: Oct 22 2007 | By: admin

After welding the cracked chasis behind all four wheels, I drove back to Mara with not so perfect 5th gear and reverse gear (they get stuck and does not work sometime). On the way to Mara, welded chasis gave up and it cracked the metal even further. After I left Nairobi at 11am, I arrived at Mara at midnight. After two weeks of repair in the garage in Nairobi, tomorrow my car will be in Kichwa Tembo garage for yet another repair…

Vehicle Crisis!!

Category: Life of a Vet | Date: Oct 20 2007 | By: admin

Right now I am in Nairobi trying to fix my car. It has been in garage for two weeks for repairs of gear box, steering box, brake pad, clutch plate, short circuit in the wiring system inside the dashboard, fallen bumpers (both front and back), cracked exhaust pipe, cracked chasis (amazing what Mara road does to a car! Body made by metal cracked in four different area), broken power window stitch, broken back door, broken fog light. There were several other repairs, but I dont even remember all of them because there were soooo many repairs to be done! After sending a car to a garage, the car usually comes back with several new problems. Now the gear does not go into reverse and 5th grear. I doubt that my car can return working in the Mara for ring vaccination any more, it is simply not strong enough for the all the bush driving I do. We are in serious need of STRONG and RELIABLE PROJECT CAR in order for me to finish the ring vaccination around the wildlife reserve… HELP!!

Cheetah in the Mara

Category: Wildlife | Date: Oct 15 2007 | By: admin

Video footage of cheetah family near Mara bridge. Couple of minutes after this footage was taken, the mother cheetah tried to hunt an impala. Unfortunately for the mom, tourist van came rushing to see the hunting scene and blocked the hunting line (van stopped between the impala and the cheetah). It is very frustrating to see inconsiderate safari behavior. I have heard that some tourist coming out of their vehicle when the zebra was trying to cross the Mara river and spooked the zebra. Poor zebra fell of the cliff and got eaten by croc…

Hail Storm in Africa

Category: Life of a Vet | Date: Oct 14 2007 | By: admin

Who would have thought that it hails in Africa? After all, Africa should be super hot, right? Maybe same reason why tourist come to Masai Mara in July without proper winter gear. Yes, it is cold between June-Sept in Kenya. It is very advisable to bring at least one sweater!
