The Better Option?

Category: Life of a Vet | Date: Nov 16 2007 | By: admin

I had no internet connection for couple of days. Apparently, my safaricom credit ran out and the line got disconnected. Question #1, “why would you not send a notice before you disconnect the line?” They have my mobile number so all they had to do was send a notification sms… but they did’t. Then Question #2, “Why would you take one year to change the ownership of the line?”. I have been requesting the change of ownership after my friend sold me the modem a year ago and I did received the request approval in Aug. My friend in Nairobi went to pay the bill (after queing in the line for 2hrs) and she found out that the line was not under my name. Then, it took 3 days for that payment to be reflected on the computer!!

Why why why?!

And why is this the “better option”?! Celtel does not make “my life better” either as network is so poor at our place I have to stand on top of termite mound to make a call… Even then, network disappears when the wind blows in the savannah grassland.

I have received a mid-Nov donation report from Widlifedirect Thank you James G, Robin A, Sheryl B, Christine C, Dana J, Lisa H! (all are familiar names from my comments). We now added USD 175 and off course it will all be directed to vehicle fund.

Asuka — believe it or not, being in the middle of nowhere is not the only place where this problem exists…I had a friend in the USA that took her a YEAR to get her internet bills straight with the company…ridiculous!

Hey Asuka … if you speak termite, suggest they go into the cellular biz and put cell towers on there mounds! … I have a bill story too … it seems my town renumbered my street in their computer, by accident, and sent my water bills to the wrong house and they must have thrown the bills away … two years later, they sent me a letter that they were going to sell my house to get their money … and I found out I had been paying someone else’s water bills all that time … I had to pay all my back bills and never got a refund from the town for what I paid for someone else’s water … I had to sue to get MY money back and the lawyer got most of that! … the moral of the story is, “Life is hard, and then you die!”.

Good grief Asuka. When it really POURS for you! At least you are back on line!!!

LOL Jim G :>) Course was not funny at the moment for you.

Hey Asuka, we get a moody connection here in DRC as well, seems that heavy clouds are to blame for our Internet dis-connection! And then our hot spots for mobile calls as well…..usually away from the building and close to the valley, preferably on top of the rocks.

I can’t understand the with the profit margins how the towers can be that expensive or so they say they are! Funny story Jim - I thought the Southern USA did all that mix-up stuff!

Jim G. (from Massachusetts USA), on 17 Nov 2007

TO: Dana-Arizona … it isn’t funny now!

Dana-Arizona, on 17 Nov 2007

TO: JIM G-Massachusetts I apologize to you for my statement if it was misread - I was actually LOL at your comment about “Life is hard……” Sorry that you had to go thru so much to get things sorted out.

Asuka I meant “when it rains it really pours for you”. That’s what I get for typing TOO fast!

Robin Andreae, on 17 Nov 2007

I know what you mean Asuka! Mine isn’t quite that bad but it’s getting there. My computer died 3 days ago. The hard drive fried with all of my stuff on it. Dumb me, I didn’t back anything up. Plus the mother board went with it, too. I’m now on an ancient loaner that gets the slowest internet speed imaginable. Out where I live, there’s no cell phone transmission. When cars have trouble out here people freak out because they have to find a pay phone. Our town has one and a couple months ago it got stolen. They also stole the motor for the air pump at the gas station. Two weeks later, the same folks tried to break into the gas station through the post office. Not overly bright folks. But I guess that’s life living out in the middle of nowhere off of a busy highway. I live in the U.S. in California.

On the upside, I did a painting to sell for you on eBay. It’s of a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I should get the auction up sometime today. I’m donating 75%. I wish it were more, but I have to pay my expenses since I have to save for a new computer.
Hoping for better days ahead for all of us, Robin

Sorry, I couldn’t mention that it is a donation to you. I don’t have a permission letter yet.

TO: Dana-Arizona … oh, I was just trying to be funny, again, and it fell flat! … no offense intended to you … actually, it happended several times because every time their system crashes, they rebuild it with obsolete data!

Thank you Robin! The painting is wonderful!

Your neighborhood sounds like it is from here…

Robin Andreae, on 19 Nov 2007

Lol, except we have bobcats and coyotes instead of elephants and cheetahs.

Wanda, Atlanta, on 20 Nov 2007
