Local School Visit

I am back on my track with my dog vaccination. We have started off from the area we left out from last year’s work (number we left off is 2,611 dogs). Just before starting our vaccination in the Lolgorian area, I visited the local primary school to give a small talk during the student parade. I talked to the headmaster of the school to gather up all the students and I was shocked when 950 students came rushing out!

My god, I did not realize that this school had so many students!
Basically, the talk I give entails “what is rabies and how does it affects human?”, “how is rabies transmitted and what you should do when you are bitten by a rabid dog”, “what kind of work we do” and “how to properly handle dog without getting bitten”. Teaching children the basic of this deadly disease is important as most of the victims of rabid dog attack are of age 5-15.

Oh my god, Asuka, that’s awesome. I think you need to make some larger posters just in case you encounter another large school group.

Asuka, amazing, 950 kids whose lives you haved touched with this education. I’m disappointed The World Rabies Foundation does not have a program in Kenya (they have several in Tanzania, and elsewhere in Africa).I will email their coordinator about this and tell her of your work. Being a nurse, I’m partial to funding anything to do with the need for medical supplies, meds, etc. Please accept my donation for your work vaccinating these dogs. Thank you for all your hard work…it can’t be easy facing that many children (yes, I have a fear of public speaking)!

I’m sure after your talk you will have some kids that will want to made their Village a safer place from rabies.
Wow, that certainly IS a crowd. I’m sure you did a wonderful job.

Asuka, today I went back through your blogs to the beginning of your blog at WLD. I have doing this with several other blogs here at WLD since I’m a newcomer(November). I thought you might get a kick going down memory lane. My favorite wildlife photo was the picture of the mother cheetah with her tiny little baby. Favorite story, the night you were sleeping in your tent, and you heard a lion very close by, peeked out of your tent, and then raced to your car! I hope you enjoyed these memories as much as I did reading about some of them.
